ARSENE WENGER is hoping to secure his second signing of the January transfer window before it even opens by adding Honduran winger Andy Najar to the Arsenal squad.
The Gunners are on the brink of unveiling midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basle, and are now looking to bring in Najar who will also help deal with their midfield injury crisis.
However, the London club will face competition from Fiorentina who according to Football Insider are at the front of the queue for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Born in Honduras but brought up in Virginia, Najar also holds a US passport, having started his career at DC United.
He signed for Anderlecht for in January of 2013, initially on loan, before completing a permanent move later that month.
Najar has made 17 appearances for the Belgian club so far this season on the right hand side as Anderlecht have risen to second in the Pro League.
But Najar also caught the eye of Arsenal scouts with his performances in the Europa League against Tottenham.
The Honduran appeared at the 2014 World Cup as his side were knocked out at the group stages, playing against France and Switzerland, and even at the age of 22, has 31 caps to his name.
