MANCHESTER UNITED manager Louis van Gaal believes Leicester are serious Premier League title contenders.
Leaders Leicester are one point ahead of second-placed United ahead of tomorrow's meeting between the two sides at the King Power Stadium.
The bookmakers do not expect the Foxes to remain there for the rest of the campaign but Van Gaal believes there is a chance they could lift the trophy.
"It is possible, I think," the United manager said when asked if Claudio Ranieri's team could win the league.
The Dutchman believes the money at Leicester's disposal means there's not much difference in terms of quality between the two squads.
He added: "Normally these kind of clubs can be a long time competing, but normally at the end it's more difficult.
"But in England because of the quality of the teams, because every team has the money to buy players - and they have bought players - the difference the clubs in level is not so high."
The 64-year-old seconded the comments of Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger, who said of the Foxes' title hopes: "Of course you cannot rule them out."
But Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri insists his side cannot be considered as serious challengers, despite losing just one game in 13 outings this term.
The Italian, who took charge at the King Power Stadium in the summer, said: “Thank you to Arsene but he's a joker. He knows the truth very well.”
