MAMADOU SAKHO will see a consultant tomorrow after the Liverpool defender suffered knee ligament damage in the defeat to Crystal Palace.
However, Liverpool have ruled out that Sakho has become the third member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The France international underwent a scan today but will now have another appointment before an exact timescale is put on his recovery.
Some damage to the ligaments was sustained after Sakho fell awkwardly following a tussle with Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie, but Liverpool want to be sure of the diagnosis.
Sakho has pulled out of France’s friendly games against Germany and England and his absence for Liverpool would hand Dejan Lovren a run in the side.
Lovren replaced Sakho in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Palace, but only after the former Paris St Germain defender tried to play through the pain barrier for a couple of minutes.
Liverpool manager Klopp has already lost Danny Ings and Joe Gomez to serious knee injuries and made clear his disappointment at being without Sakho.
“I would prefer to lose 4-1 and keep him in the team,” said Klopp following the reverse to Palace, which was his first loss since arriving at Anfield.
Youngster Jordon Ibe also suffered bruising on his knee in the defeat to Alan Pardew’s side and has withdrawn from the England U21s squad for games with Bosnia and Switzerland.
He has not yet been ruled out of the clash with Manchester City on November 21.
