GORDON Strachan claims it has now become his obsession to repair Scottish football.
The national manager insists there must be a radical shake-up of the game in order to restore it to former glories.
Strachan has a blueprint for how to take things forward in Scotland, from the grassroots up, and will reveal his plan in the coming weeks.
Having signed a new two-year deal with the SFA he feels he is in a position to implement change.
Strachan was dismayed by Scotland’s fall from grace 22 years ago when they were thumped 5-0 by Portugal and knew then there needed to be an overhaul of the game.
This belief has been strengthened over the intervening years, with our clubs continually struggling to make an impact in European competition, and he insists something has to be done.
Strachan revealed he is driven by making this happen.
He said: “Funnily enough I felt that when Scotland got beat 5-0 by Portugal and Ally McCoist broke his leg.
“There was an outcry about the standard. I said it at that time, but only after another 20 years have passed do I feel that I can affect things, and performance director Brian McClair can affect things, and the SFA can affect things.
“At the time I thought we had to do something drastic about Scottish football because I saw where it was going.
“It’s become my thing now. It’s become an obsession.
