News News Blog Sport have teamed up with fantasy football game Oulala to reveal three players that simply must be in your side.
Oulala hosts an extensive database of statistics, which comprises 70 different criteria sourced from Opta, and is the perfect tool to identify which players are about to score big fantasy football points.
We've checked out the stats and have come up with three players that simply must be in your fantasy football team this weekend.
Mesut Ozil appears a man transformed. The German playmaker is currently leading Europe with 11 assists, with his closest challenger, Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa, sitting four behind on seven assists.
Ozil has provided an assist in seven consecutive league games, a Premier League record. The 27-year-old is also on course to break Thierry Henry's record of 20 assists in a single season.
The midfielder's assist streak is no fluke: he is averaging 54 successful passes per game, the seventh most from any Premier League player, while his pass completion sits at an impressive 88 per cent. The German is at the centre of everything Arsene Wenger's side do best.
In total, Ozil has created 56 chances for teammates, again the most by any player in Europe's top five leagues. He is creating a chance, on average, every 18 minutes.
Arsenal travel to Norwich this weekend, a side that has conceded 24 goals in their opening 13 games. Notably, seven of Ozil's 11 assists have come away from the Emirates.
Romelu Lukaku is currently second in the Premier League's goal charts with nine, four behind league leader Jamie Vardy. Lukaku is averaging 0.69 goals per game or a goal every 126 minutes.
Last weekend the 22-year-old reached 50 Premier League goals, the fourth youngest to do so; only Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, and Robbie Fowler achieved the feat at an earlier age.
Look further into his stats, it is clear Lukaku has the potential to produce more.
His 42 shots is the sixth most by any player in English football's top flight, and backed up by a formidable shot accuracy of 68 per cent. 37 other players have attempted 23 or more shots in the Premier League this season, but the Belgian striker boasts a higher percentage on target than any of them.
The ex-Chelsea man has also registered four assists this season.
This weekend takes Lukaku's Everton to relegation candidates Bournemouth, a side that has conceded more goals than any other Premier League side. Of Lukaku's nine goals, five have come on the road.
Sergio Aguero returned from an injury layoff and scored Manchester City's only goal in their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend. It's usually wise to avoid picking players after injuries as they require game-time to get back up to speed but the Argentinian striker is a clear exception to that rule.
On a per minute basis Aguero is the Premier League's deadliest forward this season: his seven goals have come at an average of a goal every 87 minutes, one minute better even than top goalscorer Leicester's prolific Vardy (88 mins per goal).
Aguero has come straight back into the City side after injury, and started scoring again |
Aguero's 35 shots have come at an average of one shot every 17 minutes, meaning no other forward in the Premier League this season shoots as much as him.
And the 27-year-old isn't just in it for himself. His pass completion rate of 89 per cent is the best of any Premier League forward who has played more than 90 minutes, and he has also completed 13 successful dribbles, providing one assist: with stats like these, expect that to improve.
Manchester City return from a defeat in Turin to the Etihad this weekend, to face a Southampton side whose unbeaten streak was broken by Stoke last time out. It's worth noting that all seven of Aguero's league goals this season have come at home, as have 26 of his 35 shots.
