Customise Google with Star Wars Episode VII backgrounds, stormtroopers, lightsaber sounds
Add TIE fighters to Google Maps and custom backgrounds in Gmail with the update
GOOGLE has rolled out the ability to customise your Google Maps, Chrome browser and Android smartphone with Star Wars: The Force Awakens backgrounds and sound effects.

Googlers are clearly getting exciting about the upcoming release of Star Wars Episode VII.
The US search firm has teamed up with Lucasfilm and Disney to create a slew of customisation options for Star Wars fans across the online services, apps and hugely popular Chrome browser.
Google has built two themes – one for the Light Side and the other for the Dark Side of the Force.

Users are then asked to pick their allegiance, which in turn shapes your entire Star Wars experience across Google.
Amongst the customisations, Google will populate your calendar with Star Wars-related events and the small StreetView 'Pegman' in Google Maps transforms into either a First Order Stormtrooper or Resistance Pilot.
And once you launch directions within Google Maps – an X-wing or TIE fighter flies to your destination.

Dark Side users will see images of the Imperial Star Destroyer in their Gmail
C-3PO talks you through the journey ahead in Google-owned navigation app, Waze.
YouTube progress bars are now lightsabers and predictive Google Now service populates with Star Wars trivia, too.
Android Wear users will be able to access a special Star Wars themed watch face as well as a custom Google Chrome skin.

More goodies are expected to be rolled out to users between now and the release of JJ Abrams' first Star Wars film.
The social hashtag #ChooseYourSide is also being promoted so that Star Wars fans can share which side of the Force they picked for their Google web services.
An indicator on the Google.com/StarWars page indicates which side of the Force has the most support across social media.
Users can swap sides at any time by returning to Google's Star Wars homepage.
