Black Ops 3's main features will need to deliver for fans |
CALL of Duty fans will soon see the release of Black Ops 3 but here's the FIVE largest areas of the game that gamer should consider before snapping up the new Treyarch title.
Five things that will define Black Ops 3:
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops III now just weeks away, it’s a time to look at how the Black Ops series has been shaped in the past and how changes to player movement, campaign and Zombies mode will affect this year's COD title's success.
1. Multiplayer Maps
Nuketown, set in a close-quarters nuclear test ground, has proven one of the most enduring and returned-to maps in Call of Duty history and in the forthcoming Black Ops 3, the map’s latest incarnation, NUK3TOWN, will again try to tread the line between simplicity and frantic action.
The map takes fans of Nuketown back to the familiar close-quarters chaos in an updated, futuristic environment.
Also held in high esteem is Radiation, the uranium processing facility that boasts an impressively complex setup; one that requires careful consideration depending on what game mode you’re in. For fans keen to add a bit of extravagant close-quarters mayhem, Hijacked – the luxurious, superyacht featured in Black Ops II – provides the ideal opportunity. While those inclined to take a trip to the starry lights of the Hollywood Hills, Raid is a similarly lavish and glamorous offering that is ideal for longer sight snipers and assault rifles along with closer range engagements.
2. Zombies
Treyarch cherish their Zombies mode and have made it their business to make Shadows of Evil the biggest chapter in the series yet.
Starting with World at War as an Easter Egg, Zombies mode is now a firm fan favourite that will need to perform well if Black Ops 3 is to be considered a success.
The latest neo-noir Zombies offering will be reinforced with Hollywood regulars Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough, and Ron Perlman and looks set to provide the deepest and most stylised Zombies experience to date.
Treyarch has confirmed that fans will be able to look forward to another crazy plot unfolding, which could also include a crossover from the game's original story via The Giant bonus Map.
3. Campaign
Black Ops II introduced a world in which the player’s choice had a direct impact on both the mission at hand, as well as the overall story.
Black Ops 3 includes a campaign of up to four players now able to take part, with access to cybernetic modifications called Cybercores which give players the power to harness a variety of abilities on the battlefield such as controlling explosives and deploying nanodrones, as well as providing them with a host of new movement and defensive capabilities.
The Call of Duty series has never had to rely too heavily on the campaign mode but the idea of including more players into it and allowing for a more multiplayer feel could help to bolster its replayability factor.

4. Player Movement
New chain-based fluid movement system is set to be included in Bo3, allowing for wall runs, power slides and the ability to change direction mid-air qne double jump.
It's all part of Treyarch's attempts to modernise the FPS for 2015, while the ability to swim and fight underwater in multiplayer is another feature that the studio have long been hoping to do and hope will add a whole other dimension to the game.
These changes signal a significant increase in the overall gameplay fluidity and will hopefully give fans the chance to engage in the maps in an entirely new way.
5. Customisation
Create-A-Class in Black Ops brought with it a number of significant changes. Face Paint, Tier 1 perks, individual weapon and attachment customisations as well as the option to make cosmetic changes.
These all had a major impact on player’s abilities and physical make-up. The ability to add breadth and diversity to your classes has been a major hit among Black Ops fans, particularly with the introduction of the Pick 10 system in Black Ops II Furthermore the addition of Scorestreaks also gave a focus to gaining points as opposed to solely kills – allowing for the emergence of objective driven gameplay.

Black Ops III multiplayer mode will see the return of the Pick 10 System and also give players the option to play as one of nine specific characters, known as Specialists. Each Specialist will have their own personal backstory, along with the option to carry either a new weapon or special ability into conflict.
In the campaign players can bring in their own individual rank progression and class customisations adding new tactical rigs to their player for the first time, with one of the following three options available:
- Cybercore Chaos - throw the enemy into a state of confusion
- Cybercore Martial – provide the player with stealth and speed abilities
- Cybercore Control - allows the player to hack into system and take control of enemy robots and devices
A further feature set to make its debut in Black Ops III is the Safe House, an area where players can interact between themselves and fully customise their character and loadout before heading into the action.
