Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his first game as Liverpool manager |
JURGEN KLOPP was pleased with his first game in charge of Liverpool as the Reds earned a point in a hard-fought draw against Tottenham.
Liverpool started fiercely with a high-pressing game and almost took the lead early on when Divock Origi, starting in place of the injured Daniel Sturridge, hit the bar with a close-range header.Spurs recovered and finished the first half strongly, with Simon Mignolet producing a superb one-handed stop to deny Clinton N'Jie and also keeping out an effort from Harry Kane.In a second half bereft of clear chances, late shots from Kane and Emre Can were the closest either side came to a winner at White Hart Lane and Klopp revealed he was pleased with the Reds performance."I'm happy with this result," he told BT Sport."I saw many good things: a very, very good first 20 minutes... very present, very aggressive, good timing for pressing and counter-pressing."Tottenham is a good team, so they came back into the match and had the advantage for half an hour. Then we came back and it was an open game. They had the bigger chances but we played better football."We will be stronger next time. We were too nervous when we got the ball, because the pulse was too high."This was a good first step.

Divock Origi cam closest to giving Liverpool the win |
"In the first 20 minutes, I didn't have much influence on the game because it was very loud in the stadium. When I saw the players were fully concentrated, it was cool."It was a busy week. I had to do many things. But now we have our own pictures and videos from this game... we can show [the players] what is good and what is not good, and make the next step."There were many full-throttle moments in the game. We need to improve, but today, after three days, I am completely satisfied."I can work with this. 0-0 is not my dream result, but it's OK."
