Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has accused people of showing him a lack of respect |
JOSE MOURINHO insisted yesterday his grumpy persona is here to stay after he accused people of showing him a lack of respect away from the pitch.
Videos appeared this week showing him appearing to jostle an overly-keen young fan who had been following him while the Chelsea manager was making a private phone call for around 20 minutes while walking the streets of London near his home.
A statement was released by the club yesterday describing the apparent attempt to incite Mourinho as "overly intrusive" and "beyond the bounds of reasonable behaviour".
That was after an even more terse press conference than usual prompted one reporter to ask if Mourinho was any happier than last week, before two improved performances against Aston Villa and Dinamo Kiev, and Mourinho said: "Yes, I like the two matches. Yes."
When it was put to him his demeanour suggested otherwise, he added: "This is what you are going to have."
And when in an attempt to lighten the mood the visit of the South Africa rugby team to Cobham was brought up, Mourinho snapped: "You don't get from me good and funny headlines.
"I'm going to treat your bosses the same way they treat me: no respect, no respect.
"I'm not talking about football. In football I'm ready to be criticised, even the stupid ones. Private life, stupid things you bring to light, I don't like it. So we go to a different level of professional relations."
It is the professionalism of his players that Mourinho has been questioning recently and he is hoping the penny is beginning to drop ahead of today's trip to West Ham.
"We analyse the matches, show important videos of important moments of the game where they can feel exactly the difference between defending with 10 or defending with nine or eight," Mourinho said. "We are accumulating examples of that. Clearly they know that.
"The tactical discipline from 10 players is what makes a team well organised. I think they get now that feeling."
