Gina Rodriguez could be swapping Jane the Virgin for Star Wars |
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS isn't out yet, but Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez is the hot favourite for the sequel, Star Wars: Chapter VIII, while Benicio del Toro FINALLY confirms that he will play the villain when the film starts shooting in March.
Rodriguez became a huge star overnight thanks to her lead role in smash hit US comedy drama Jane the Virgin.
The 31-year-old recently won a Golden Globe best actress gong for her portrayal of the feisty titular pregnant virgin.
Her career isn't just going sky high, it could be heading into outer space as she leads the race to play the principal female role in the next Star Wars film.
An understandably jubilant Rodriguez describes the news as, "terrifying and brilliant and awesome."

Rodriguez is one of three up and coming actresses who are vying for the lead role in the as yet untitled blockbuster.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl's Olivia Cooke plus Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany are also in the running. Maslany narrowly lost out to Brit Felicity Jones for another spin-off, Star Wars: Rogue One.
Rather than handbags (or light sabers) at dawn, Rodriguez is being tactically ladylike in her praise for the other two.
"These ladies are super, super talented and I wouldn't want to be in any other company," she says. "It's just an honour to be amongst them."

The Force to be diplomatic is definitely strong in that one…

The latest The Force Awakens revelations confirmed that Kylo Ren is baddie, but not necessarily villainous and definitely not a Sith, while the First Order are, apparently, inspired by the Nazis in Argentina.
Benicio del Toro, however, has at least finally cleared up his involvement in the saga and responded to endless rumours that he will be an integral part of Chapter VIII.
In a recent interview with Rac 1, the actor officially confirmed his role, and as a bonus, revealed when the film starts shooting.

"Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out," del Toro revealed.
"I think we start shooting in March."
Unfortunately, that's pretty much all he would say.
"The thing is, they don't let me talk too much about it," he added. "I'm like the villain. But we'll see."
