Destiny's update will release the new Taken King game modes early |
BUNGIE have announced that Destiny fans will get to try out the Xbox and PlayStation platform's new PvP content early.
Destiny will have a new patch released next week, which will allow for the Taken King's exclusive PvP content go live for free--for one week.
The Crucible Preview Event will take place from September 8 to September 14 but will then become exclusive to those who have bought the expansion.
The Destiny 2.0 patch will also include a range of updates, along with the two temporary game modes, Rift and Mayhem.
"If you’ve bought Destiny, whether you’ve pre-ordered The Taken King or not, we’re sending you into the Crucible to experience new modes of battle on every brand new map," Bungie announced today.
Destiny is down today for maintenance, Bungie has confirmed |
"One thing to note: You won’t have the use of your new Super abilities yet. You’ll have to visit your class Vanguard in The Taken King to earn your new subclass.
"For now, though, you can and should check out the new slate of maps on offer, and two of the new modes.
"Once Oryx arrives in our Solar System, the new Crucible content will become the sole property of those Guardians who pick up and continue playing The Taken King. This is your chance to try before you buy – or download.
"Think of it as your own personal E3 or gamescom, only it happens at home on your couch."
UPDATE THREE: Bungie are reporting that Destiny is now back online, following a lengthy downtime for maintenance today.
The studio have already confirmed they will not be sharing any information through patch notes on what they were doing, although more information on the 2.0 update as a whole will be supplied to fans later this week.
UPDATE TWO: Bungie Have confirmed that there will be no patch notes from today's downtime.
One fan asking community manager, David Dague on Twitter was told there were no plans to reveal what was behind the maintenance, at least for the time being.
"No Patch Notes today. We'll cover some basic 2.0 previews in the Weekly Update.
"Today is just a 'Pardon our Dust' moment."
Destiny is scheduled to be offline for at least six hours today, ending at around 10pm, UK time tonight.
UPDATE ONE: Bungie's scheduled downtime for Destiny has begun and will last around six hours today.
Community manager David Dague apologised for the timing of the maintenance, telling one fan on Twitter: "We're sorry to work during prime gametime @ravetechgaming.
"It's when we have the most smart people in the building. Blame continental drift."
The epic space shooter is set for scheduled downtime ahead of The Taken King update, which is released on September 15.
Bungie confirmed yesterday that maintenance will begin at around 4pm UK time and will include Destiny servers going offline.
The work is expected to last for six hours and will conclude at 10pm, the studio confirmed.
Players signed in shortly before maintenance will receive prior notice via in-game messaging and once maintenance is concluded, all services and Destiny login functionality will be restored.
Xbox and PlayStation players have also been warned that some Bungie.net sign-in and Companion app services may be restricted during this time.
Bungie recently revealed more on the launch of The Taken King this week, confirming that the new King's Fall Raid will be released on September 18.
King's Fall will be the biggest Raid yet for Destiny fans to explore and will be centered around Fireteams fighting their way through Oryx's floating fortress, the Dreadnaught.
Creative Director Luke Smith has described it as "the culmination of that story," so expect some epic battles before exploring the new Court of Oryx mode.
Court of Oryx is a new game in which players can band together and take on several bosses at one, you can read more about that here.
