Arsene Wenger's worries over Danny Welbeck forced him to target Benzema and Cavani
Danny Welbeck has become something of a forgotten man at Arsenal
ARSENE WENGER is reportedly worried about the long-term fitness of Danny Welbeck after failing to sign a striker this summer.

Arsenal targeted a top-class forward to add competition to current frontmen Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
Welbeck can also play in Wenger's favoured lone striker role but he has not played since April 26.

The Gunners boss was rebuffed by Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and refused to shell out £50million to land Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain.

And the Daily Mail report Arsenal's eagerness to sign a big-name forward intensified over ongoing doubts about Welbeck

The 24-year-old swapped Manchester United for Arsenal in a £16m deal on deadline day last year.

Welbeck scored eight goals in 34 games in his first season at the Emirates but has been hampered by a long-running knee problem over the last six months.

It is claimed Arsenal do not know exactly when the England man will be available again but are hoping he will return to training after the international break.
