w Watford signing Steven Berghuis hopes he and his dad Frank can get one over on Ronald Koeman |
WATFORD new boy Steven Berghuis is confident he and his dad can get one over Ronald Koeman.
The £4.6million signing from AZ Alkmaar, 23, is hoping for a first Hornets start today when Koeman's Southampton are the visitors.
The right winger comes from a footballing family, and dad Frank won his one and only Holland cap playing alongside Koeman against Brazil in 1989.
And Berghuis senior has agreed to join his son at Vicarage Road as a coach under new boss Quique Sanchez Flores.
Berghuis said: "My dad played against Ronald Koeman and played with him also, and I played a couple of times in Holland against his teams. Everybody in Holland knows Ronald Koeman.
"Because my father was a footballer I started playing when I was five years old.

"He has always helped me and let me play freely. He always supported me but he wasn't a critical coaching father."
Berghuis reckoned the newly-promoted Hornets, unbeaten after two games so far, can thrive like Southampton.
He said: "They are a good example. They also have a good vision and type of playing. If they lose one or two matches after each other they keep on going and don't change every time. I think that is the biggest chance to make steps."
Watford scouts will also have an eye on his younger brother Tristan, now 19, who had trials at Chelsea and Tottenham when he was still a schoolboy.
Berghuis said: "He was one of the biggest talents in Holland. He had a tough time at PSV and Vitesse which is why he decided to join Zwolle. He has taken a step back in order to take a bigger step forward.
"He has to develop and work hard. He has the qualities though."
