Arsenal boss Wenger hopes to open up Liverpool with old Kop transfer flame Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will look to open up Liverpool with his trump card Alexis Sanchez
LIVERPOOL fans tend to have long memories - which is why Arsene Wenger is hoping Arsenal's visit to Anfield tomorrow will open up an old sore or two.

They will, he plans, be reminded of the TWO that got away. Luis Suarez and Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal went head to head with Liverpool for the services of Sanchez when Barcelona made him available. But the Chilean chose the Emirates rather than Merseyside.

He will be key for the Gunners tomorrow and because he plays so much like Kop idol Suarez, it is likely to be a painful reminder of how much they also lost when the Uruguayan moved to Spain.
Wenger wasted no time last night in rubbing salt in that particular wound,
He said: "When Suarez went to Barcelona I thought the obvious deal was for him to go one way and Sanchez go the other way. I was quite surprised that at the time it was possible for us (that Sanchez would sign for Arsenal instead).
"You should ask him 'why did you not want to go to Liverpool?' "

Whatever the reason Wenger reckons Sanchez will be a deja vue experience Liverpool certainly won't want again tomorrow.
"Sanchez is now much better than when he first came to us," the Frenchman taunted.
"He has that desire to go forward and provoke. He is a guy who provokes chaos in the defences because he has a go at you.
"He does not go across, he goes straight. His desire to go forward, to provoke opponents, to run at people, creates danger."

Wenger believes it is that threat that has rubbed off on his teammates - and will be a potentially painful experience for Brendan Rodgers and co.
"We missed our sharpness in the first game, but the second game we were much better," he said.
"We realised that we have to give more, but Sanchez plays to win in every single game.
"He is lightning quick and has that explosive attitude linked with his spirit. That makes him even more spectacular."
Now then, does that remind you of anyone?
