But president Florentino Perez is not sold on the Belgium star's talents and doesn't want to pay more than he did for Gareth Bale.</div>

Since that result Madrid's form has picked up with six wins in their next eight games including a 10-2 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
But tonight Zidane, who was managing their Castilla side in the Spanish third tier, has taken the reins.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Florentino Perez said: Perez: “Hello and welcome. I invite you all here today to announce that we have terminated the contract of Rafa Benitez.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
“I would like to make it clear that he is a great professional.”</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Zidane was assistant to Ancelotti last season and completed his pro licence course in May making him eligible to lead the team.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
He had worked as assistant to Jose Mourinho previously but the two fell out before the Portuguese left his post and Zidane began working with the B team.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
Zidane played for Madrid for five years between 2001 and 2006 winning one league title and the 2002 Champions League.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
He scored the iconic volley at Hampden Park in the victory over Bayer Leverkusen to seal the club's ninth European title.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
“He is one of the greatest players of all time,” says Perez. “Zidane, you are from this moment, the coach of Real Madrid.”</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Zidane: “I’m going to do everything I can to make the best for this club.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
“It’s a very important day for me. What I can tell you is that I will give everything or this club. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
“Ever since I arrived as a player I knew how great this club was.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
“We have the best fans in the world and the best club in the world and I’ll do everything to win.”</div>

The club held an emergency meeting today to discuss the 55-year-old's future at the Bernabeu and a press conference has been called for 16:30 (GMT).</div>

Reports in Spain suggest <a href="http://newsnewsblog.blogspot.com/2016/01/rafael-benitez-faces-sack-at-real.html" rel="tag" target="_blank">Benitez will be sacked and replaced by club legend Zidane</a>, who currently manages the Real Madrid Castilla team, with Santi Solari being appointed his assistant.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Odds were slashed this morning by Paddy Power on the Frenchman to take the top job at the Bernabeu, falling from 7/4 to 3/10, which implies Florentino Perez and the club's hierarchy have already made their move.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is second favourite, having managed Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015, but still falls way behind at 10/3 compared to Zidane's odds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
German boss Joachim Low and Chelsea, Man City and Man United target Pep Guardiola are outsiders at 20/1, with Brendan Rodgers and Mauricio Pochettino available at 25/1. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Benitez took over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer but he's been under pressure throughout his tenure, with Real Madrid being heavily criticised for their league performances with the club third in La Liga, four points behind leaders and city rivals Atletico.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Their great rivals Barcelona are two points above them in second with a game in hand and Benitez faces the sack this evening, after Sunday's 2-2 draw with Gary Neville's Valencia at the Mestalla.</div>
