Alex Iwobi scored twice against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League |
ARSENAL youngster Alex Iwobi heaped praise on club legend Thierry Henry after scoring two goals against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League.
Iwobi's double helped the young Gunners beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the group stage, just hours before the senior side did the same.
The youngster, 19, rifled home from 25 yards before a calm finish wrapped up the win.
And he reserved a special mention for Henry, who is currently coaching the youth sides, for giving him the confidence to go and score goals.
On his stunning opener, he said: “I owe that to him [Henry].
“He told me before the game that most wingers get their goals at the back post so I tried to take his advice on board.
"Other coaches I have had have all played football but no disrespect to them; I have never had anyone like Thierry. I am basically learning from the best.”
Iwobi claims Thierry Henry is like no other coach he has worked with |
The club's record goalscorer is reported to be one of the frontrunners to replace Arsene Wenger as senior boss in the long-term.
A glowing endorsement from Iwobi will have done his chances no harm and the Nigerian raved about his coaching skills.
"We all want to listen and learn,” he added.“He’s like one of us. He just jokes around. But when we have to be serious he’s very serious. He is teaching us what to do.
"He may criticise us a few times but that’s just for us to get better.”
