JUAN MATA outlined how confidence comes from winning matches - but Manchester United were denied another victory as they were pegged back late on by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Spaniard's former side equalsied in stoppage time to deny United three points after their solid run of form of late.
Diego Costa brought Chelsea fans to their feet as he rounded David De Gea to cancel out Jesse Lingard's opener.
Mata insisted United deerved to win in west London and was happy with his team-mates' displays at his old stomping ground.
"We played very good football," Mata said. "Coming to Stamford Bridge and playing the football we did, we had it so close but Chelsea always try to push and they scored a late goal.
"When you win and play good football confidence comes back. We try our best in every game and in the last three or four I thought we played really well."
United goalscorer Lingard also put a positive spin on the game for United as he feels the team is heading in the right direction now.
Lingard added: "To concede late on it is like a defeat but we have to move on to the next game. We are playing a lot better now. As a collective group we are doing well."
