ITALIAN defender Matteo Darmian can't wait for his first trip to Liverpool as a Manchester United player.
Both United and Liverpool drew 3-3 in their mid-week Premier League fixtures and the pair will reignite their famous rivalry at Anfield on Sunday.
Damian, 26, signed from Torino last summer for £12.7million and the fullback has been a regular under Louis van Gaal this season.
He started in United’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle on Tuesday and couldn’t hide his disappointment at the result on Tyneside.
But the Italian international is eager to put that result behind him and look ahead to facing Liverpool.
“We're disappointed because we led 2-0 [at Newcastle] and, after that, we had chances to close the game," Darmian told the club’s website.
"But this is football and sometimes in 90 minutes, even in the last minute, they can score so now we are talking about a draw and not a win.
"It's a big match against Liverpool this weekend. We'll try to be ready for that game and now we have to focus on this challenge and that's all - obviously, we want to win."
England captain Wayne Rooney was back to his best at St James’ Park as he scored twice and provided an assist for Jesse Lingard’s superb breakaway goal.
Darmian, who played for Italy against England at the 2014 World Cup, praised United’s skipper on his return to form.
"He is a great striker and the goals speak for him,” added Darmian. “I hope it continues like this."
If Darmian plays at Anfield, he will become only the second Italian to play for United at Liverpool in the Premier League.
The last was Massimo Taibi who won the man-of-the-match award on his debut in a 3-2 win for the Red Devils in 1999.
