ASTON VILLA captain Micah Richards has been warned he is not guaranteed a place in tomorrow’s West Midlands derby at West Brom.
Villa boss Remi Garde is tempted to keep faith with the back four that has earned his struggling side four points from their last two Premier League games.
Richards, 27, picked up a foot injury in the FA Cup draw at Wycombe and has been on the subs’ bench for the Premier League win against Crystal Palace and the draw against Leicester.
He started the midweek cup replay win over Wycombe but Garde has not promised the former Manchester City man a recall.
“This is something have have to consider,” said Garde.
“It is not an easy situation because Micah used to be the captain of the team for the start of the season.
“But then I have to consider that in the last two games we played we were very interesting in many aspects.
“I have to be fair with everybody - with every player in my team.
“This is quite good news for me when I have competition between big players for selection to the starting line-up.
“I know it can be frustrating when you are not selected but once again for me as a manager it is good to have competition.
“If not, we would be in big trouble.”
Full-back Alan Hutton is again ruled out with a hamstring strain while midfielder Carlos Sanchez faces a late fitness test for the Premier League’s bottom club.
But long-serving striker Gabby Agbonlahor is missing again after reporting a new injury problem.
“Gabby trained on the Sunday before we played Wycombe on Tuesday then he got injured with a hip problem on Monday,” said Garde.
“He is probably not available.”
