James Wilson has already found the net twice for Brighton against Derby and Nottingham Forest |
LOUIS VAN GAAL is considering a quick recall for loan star James Wilson to ease Manchester United's goal-scoring crisis.
Highly rated striker Wilson, 20, has scored two goals in his first two starts for Championship club Brighton since Van Gaal surprisingly allowed him to go out on loan for the season at a time when United are struggling to find the net.
But under loan rules, he can be recalled by his parent club after a minimum 28 days which means, as he joined the Seagulls on November 26, he could be back for United's Boxing Day clash at Stoke and home showdown with Chelsea two days later.
United have scored only 10 goals in their last 12 games in all competitions while their trio of strikers, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay, have managed only seven between them in the Premier League this season.
At the time of Wilson's loan, Van Gaal said: "We believe in him and when we need him we can call him back. I have not always chosen him in the selection and I think it's better for him to play at his age than sit on the bench or play in the second team.
"In the short term, maybe it's not so good for Manchester United but in the long term it is better for the development of a player."
Now it is understood Van Gaal is thinking of curtailing the loan move in a bid to increase United's fire power.
Meanwhile, another youngster Nick Powell gave Van Gaal some more food for thought ahead of Saturday's home clash against Norwich by scoring twice for the under 21s.
