Twitter revealed the most tasked about topics of 2015 as part of its #YearOnTwitter review |
TWITTER has revealed the biggest trends and tweets of the last year.
Twitter has revealed the biggest moments of 2015 across the US social network.
The Californian firm has unveiled the prominent hashtags, most popular tweets and most-followed celebrities as part of its review of the last year.
Twitter announced the #YearOnTwitter on its official blog, writing: "As always, the world united this year in moments of triumph, activism, support, and fascination, and Twitter is where we gathered for all of it.
"Whether people were making a hashtag into a global movement or expressing wonder over the colour of a dress, we all used Twitter this year in awe-inspiring ways."
Messages of love and gratitude shared by boy band One Direction topped Twitter's charts – eclipsing President Barack Obama's celebration of the US Supreme Court's decision legalise gay marriage in America.
One Direction members accounted for half of the 10 most re-tweeted posts, including the three most popular.
Twitter also released some of the most popular topics, denoted by hashtags, that resonated with the more than 300 million users of its short-messaging service.
The list included #JeSuisParis after last month's terrorist attack in France, #BlackLivesMatter after police shootings of African-Americans in several US cities, #LoveWins after the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage and #RefugeesWelcome as people fled the Middle East for Europe.
Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins
