Is Antoine Griezmann the answer to Jose Mourinho's problems? |
NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you all the latest news from Stamford Bridge.
Griezmann interest steps up
Ateltico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann has been singled out as the man to save Chelsea's season according to the Sunday Mirror.
After yet another defeat, this time to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho was forced to deny that Chelsea are in a relegation battle, despite floundering in 14th place in the Premier League just three points off the drop zone.
With Diego Costa's introduction from the bench making no difference to the result, Chelsea are left searching for answers to their offensive struggles.
And long-term target Antoine Griezmann has now been firmly installed as target No 1 if Roman Abramovich is to open his wallet in January.
However, Atletico will need to see a bid upwards of £25million if they are to part with the Frenchman.
Musonda to force January exit
Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda has been open about his desire to leave the London club, and now Manchester United are set to offer the teenager an exit, according to the Mirror.
The Belgian prodigy signed a new contract with Jose Mourinho's side in March, but has been unable to break into the first team.
And given the lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Musonda is now trying to force his way out in January, with United and rivals City both interested in the youngster's signature.
Musonda joined Chelsea from Anderlecht and has represented Belgium all the way up to Under-21 level, but has stated his desire to play top level club football as well, despite not even training in with first team.
Costa nothing to do with improvement
Jose Mourinho refused to give Diego Costa the credit for Chelsea's improvement after half-time in their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Costa, who was once again benched for the game, came on at the break to give Chelsea's attack a focal point and it appeared to have the desired effect.
However, the manager was keen to stress it was a team effort.
"We were stronger in the second half but it was not because of Diego - it was the attitude, the intensity, the aggressiveness," Mourinho said
"We started pressing much higher and sooner."
