Wayne Rooney in action for Manchester United against Crystal Palace |
MANCHESTER UNITED should give Wayne Rooney a two-week break to help him 'recharge his batteries'.
That is the opinion of former Newcastle striker turned pundit Alan Shearer.
Rooney has seen his form tail off this season and he has netted just once in the Premier League.
There have been calls for Rooney to be dropped, and Shearer thinks Rooney would benefit from a break.
"He needs time out of the game to relight that fire inside him," Shearer wrote in his column for The Sun.
"I’m his biggest fan and I’m not saying he is finished — but if ever a player needed to recharge his batteries it is Rooney.
"It might seem odd to say this as we are just 11 Prem games into the season.

"But it would benefit him, Manchester United and probably England too.
"Sir Alex Ferguson used to do it regularly with players, just give them a couple of weeks away from football.
"Don’t train, don’t even watch a game. Just fly away and do something else. Relax, recharge."
