GARY CAHILL will be involved in another security lockdown as Chelsea continue their Champions League adventure in Israel on Tuesday night.
Haifa, 75 miles up the coast from Tel Aviv where Maccabi play their home European games, has been hit by rockets launched from neighbouring Gaza in an ongoing bloody conflict.
It means that Cahill and his Stamford Bridge colleagues will be under close guard from the moment they land in Israel.
This comes after the 29-year-old defender was involved in high security for Tuesday night's England friendly against France at Wembley in the aftermath of the Paris atrocities.
Football, he admits, will never be the same again after it has become obvious that there are now no boundaries when it comes to acts of terrorism.
He said: "I think you just have to rely on people who know a hell of a lot more than me about the whole situation to make sensible decisions.
"Regarding the England game the security was fantastic from what we saw. The game was played in the right manner so the decision was right [to play it].
"For our trip to Israel you rely on people who know more than us and they ultimately make the decisions."
A Chelsea spokesman added: "We keep our security measures under constant review."
Cahill is hoping that Chelsea can replicate their Champions League success of 2012 - the last time the club were off the pace in the Premier League title race.
Chelsea under Roberto Di Matteo landed Europe's biggest prize for the first and only time in their history.
He recalled: "Yes, that was the first season I came in and it was a difficult season because they were underachieving at that time as well and were way down the league.
"We managed to go on and do an incredible thing, which was to win the Champions League. But you see from the history of the club that it's very difficult to do that.
"Since that night we reached the semi against Atletico Madrid and we're looking to push hard in that competition now.
"We're respectful of how hard it is to win the competition with what you have to go through. First and foremost we have to get out of the group."
