Argos went offline for hours at the weekend, causing chaos for desperate bargain hunters |
ARGOS suffered a technical glitch during its four-day online sales in the run-up to Black Friday.
Argos customers vented their anger after a bug brought down the popular retailer's website during its pre-Black Friday sales, dubbed Red Friday.
Shoppers had flocked to the UK firm's online store after it advertised huge discount on children's toys, electrical goods and console bundles.
The retailer said deals are to be available every Friday between now and December 25 in attempt to relieve some of the chaos expected to break out on November 27, so called Black Friday 2015.
But furious customers were left unable to take advantage of the savings after the website went offline for hours at the weekend.
Shoppers flooded social media, complaining the IT glitch had led to missed payments and unfulfilled deliveries.
Twitter user @Traypt claimed he was having ongoing issues making purchases, adding: "Day three of trying to order bunk beds for my son, but I get errors every time after payment @Argos_Online"
User @Welshlinzi said the site should have apologised earlier for the "shambles" adding: "I gave up and ordered with @AmazonUK instead."
Referring to the high number of angry customers, @AlexGreem88 simply said: "Not sure I would want to be part of the @Argos_Online web team this morning."
Argos is holding its own Red Friday discounts between now and December 25th |
Karen Price claims she spent some five hours tracing the online order she made on Saturday.
"They take my £180 then the site crashes and they have no record of my order," she posted on the firm's Facebook page "even though I have an authorisation code from my bank which proves you took the money."
"This is the worst customer service I have experienced in my life."
Argos has warned people to be vigilant of scammers looking to capitalise on this, stressing the firm would never ask customers to hand over personal information in an unsolicited email.
So Argos should have apologised for their website yesterday, #shambles . I gave up and ordered with @AmazonUK! @Argos_Online @ArgosHelpers

Argos said in a statement on Sunday: "We are extremely sorry for the temporary service issues our customers were experiencing on our website this afternoon.
"We have identified and fixed the issue and our site is now up and running.
"We apologise to any customer who has tried to contact us unsuccessfully today and we are working to respond to all enquiries as soon as we can."
Disappointed customers had hoped to take advantage of the Red Friday discounts |
Back in April, another IT glitch meant customers could only pay by cash and had trouble collecting online orders.
Some stores were even forced to close on Good Friday, one of the busiest times for the retailer.
Others had problems with their land lines, meaning many shoppers could not to check beforehand if they were still open.
