Brendan Rodgers was sacked as Liverpool manager on Sunday |
BRENDAN RODGERS will be on a list of 'home-grown' managers the Football Association will consider for the England manager's job if they decide against renewing Roy Hodgson's contract, according to reports.
Hodgson's England deal expires after next summer's European Championships, with his future set to be decided on how the team performs at the tournament in France.
If he fails to reach the quarter-final's his contract may not be renewed, and the Telegraph report that the FA are ready to include 'home-grown' candidates as well as English candidates in their search for a new boss.
Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool after a three-year spell in charge on Sunday, following the Reds' 1-1 draw with Everton, and is expected to be replaced by Jurgen Klopp.
The Northern Irishman would qualify for the 'home-grown' rule, having gained managerial experience with Watford, Reading and Swansea City before landing the Liverpool job.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez and former Manchester United boss David Moyes would also qualify as 'home-grown' candidates.
The 'home-grown' managers' will be looked at if the FA decides that English coaches including Alan Pardew, Gary Neville, Gareth Southgate and Garry Monk are not deemed ready for the post.
