Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini attacked Belgium coach Marc Wilmots for playing Vincent Kompany |
Kompany has missed City’s last five games with a calf problem and Pellegrini warned before the international break that he was not to fit to play.
That fell on deaf ears with Wilmots picking Kompany to play against Israel on Tuesday night after Belgium had already qualified for the finals of Euro 2016.
The defender came through almost an hour without problem as Belgium won 3-1 to go to number one in the world rankings.
But Pellegrini was unhappy that Kompany was used ahead of a run of big club games and believes clubs will at some point make a firmer stance.
The City boss said: “I was not pleased because we sent Vincent with a medical report that he was not able to play.
“But as the manager of Belgium says, he can do what he wants. In the international break he can use the players and he wanted to use and he used.
“For me, when you don’t send a player to their national squad you cannot use in your club, in the other sense it must be the same way.
“If the player didn’t play the last three games in your club, they cannot play for their national squad.
“It’s not my duty to do it but I think some days clubs will protest about that because I think it must be from the same side the same thing.”
City play Bournemouth tomorrow before a mid-week Champions League tie against Seville and next Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Kompany is likely to be involved at some stage but Pellegrini confirmed that striker Sergio Aguero will be out for at least a month with the hamstring injury he suffered playing for Argentina.
Play-maker David Silva is also out with an ankle knock picked up playing for Spain and he and defender Aleksandar Kolarov, who damaged a thigh playing for Serbia, are expected to be missing for a fortnight.
Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and Fernando are all fit to face Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow with Pellegrini out to avoid a repeat of the upset his side suffered at home to West Ham last month as City look to stay top of the Premier League.
He added: “They have good players and they are the same players that won promotion last season.
“I think the only way to win it is to be absolutely sure you play with 100 percent of intensity.
“There are very difficult teams who come here maybe without responsibility to win the three points.
“I am sure also the experience against West Ham will be very useful for this game.”
