Liverpool striker confident that season not over despite having knee surgery
Danny Ings tore his anterior cruciate ligament in training
DANNY INGS will undergo surgery tomorrow and has not given up hope of playing for Liverpool before the end of the season again.

The striker will have an operation to repair a partial tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and then begin the task of featuring before the campaign finishes.
Ings suffered the injury last Wednesday, less than 48-hours after making his England debut as a substitute against Lithuania, but is upbeat about his prospects of being back after six months rather than nine months.
Team-mate Joe Gomez ruptured his ACL playing for England U21s last Tuesday and is facing a longer recovery. The youngster saw a consultant with Ings today and is likely to have surgery later this week.

There is no other damage to the other muscles and ligaments in Ings’ knee and last Friday he took part in a double gym session at Melwood in a clear signal of how he intends to battle back from the injury.
The timing of the injury is a particular blow given it came in only his second training session under new manager Jurgen Klopp, but Ings is determined to still catch the German’s eye over the coming months.

The injury's timing is particularly tragic, Ings having just made his England debut
“The only way I can get in his thoughts and show him what a good professional I am is the way I am in the gym or by being positive around the lads,” said Ings.
“Sometimes negativity can rub off on players and I don’t want to affect their performance. When you are injured you have to keep a positive mindset and keep moving forward.
“There will be a few down days when I am not feeling myself and I am gutted I cannot be out with the team. But I am trying to stay as positive as I can be.”
