Hector Bellerin says he'll stay on his 'A' game all season |
And Wenger has since kept faith with the youngster, starting him over the France international in seven of Arsenal's Premier League games.
"In the long-term, if this situation continues it could become tricky," he said.
Mathieu Debuchy has threatened to leave Arsenal if he remains on the sidelines |
"It's a must to hold down a first team place. It's clear. To be effective on the field you need game time."
However, Bellerin is revelling in his new role as the Gunners' first-choice right-back and believes he can cope with the pressure.
He told the London Evening Standard: "At the beginning of the first season, you don't have that pressure to perform at 100 per cent because it is always hard when you first start.
"But now, in the second season, people are expecting big things from you so you can't disappoint them. You have to play your 'A' game in every single match and that is a good thing.
"I'm confident, I know that I can play and you know that all the experience always plays in your favour. You've got both sides of it — people saying that teams know how to stop you but you've got the confidence and the experience."
