Can you REALLY charge your smartphone with a LEMON?
NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com has put a slew of top technology myths to the test

WE PUT some of the strangest technology myths to the test – and were shocked by what we discovered.

Can you charge your smartphone using a lemon?
Can you use your cerebral fluid to unlock your car?
Can you BOOST your broadband using only a beer can?
NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com has unearthed some of the weirdest myths in technology – and put them to the test.
Here's what we discovered.

Myth #1 – Leaving Your Smartphone On Charge All The Time Kills The Battery

We've all heard this one before – leaving your smartphone plugged into the wall after it has finished charging will ruin the battery.
Fortunately it's not true.
Modern smartphones are clever enough to know exactly when they've had enough juice.
As soon as your smartphone has had its fill – power will stop flowing to the battery.

Leaving your smartphone on charge all night will not break the battery, phew
Some technology experts believe leaving the phone on a constant charge for a few weeks can have a negative impact on the battery.
But leaving your smartphone on the bedside cabinet to charge overnight will not affect your battery life.

Myth #2 – You Can Use Your Head to Extend Your Wireless Key Fob

This is one to test out in a packed car pack at rush hour …
It turns out placing your wireless car key fob against your temple will extend the range of the unlock signal.
Provided you don't mind looking like a plonker – this trick can be a great way to find a lost car in a busy car park.
The trick works thanks to the fluids swirling in your skull.

The fluids in your head can give the wireless signal from your car key a boost
These cerebral fluids work as a conductor and amplifier to the key fob's signal.
Bonus Tip – Opening your mouth as wide as possible will extend the signal even further.

Myth #3 – Leaving Your Game Disk In Your Console Overnight Is Bad For It

CDs, DVDs and Video Games – people are understandably nervous about leaving their media in their respective players for long periods.
Luckily there is no evidence that this ruins your disks.
For example, Microsoft does warn customers to remove their disks before standing or moving their consoles.

But as long as the console itself doesn't move – there shouldn't be any issue with a disk lying inside the player.
However it is possible for older CD players to damage a disk if it is left paused for an extended period of time.

Myth #4 – Boosting a Home Broadband Signal With A Beer Can

Blue Peter would be very proud of this DIY technology myth.
Slicing an empty beer can and curling it around your home broadband router is rumoured to speed up your wifi connection.
NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com decided to test this myth and drank a can of beer responsibly to see whether the aluminium could act as a wifi extender.

A sliced beer can does not increase the power of your wifi signal

We tried a number of speed tests with and without the beer can wrapped around the router.
Unfortunately – the can made no difference to our download and upload speeds.

Myth #5 – Can You Charge A Smartphone Using a Lemon?

A quick YouTube search will reveal how many people believe this prominent technology myth.
According to the citrus-flavoured myth, plugging your smartphone into the lemon can give your depleted battery a much-needed boost.
But when we plugged our brand-new Samsung Galaxy S6 into the juicy yellow fruit, all we got was a very soggy USB cable and no extra power.
It is possible to fill your smartphone battery with lemon juice but you need more than one humble fruit. A LOT more.

Can you REALLY charge your smartphone with a LEMON?
You'd need at least 120,000 lemons to recharge the Samsung Galaxy S6
A dozen lemons will provide a weak 5 volts of charge for your smartphone.
At this rate, it'd take a little over 5,000 hours – or 209 days – to charge the smartphone.
To make matters worse, the lemons would run out of juice after about 30 minutes charging the device.
That means you'd need 120,000 lemons to recharge your handset using only fruit juice.
Probably best to stick with the old faithful plug socket, eh?
