Hundreds of piglets came within moments of a fiery death after four agricultural buildings caught on fire at the farm.
The Yorkshire fire service rushed to put out the blaze |
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a fire on the farm just before 9am on Saturday.
However, when they arrived, the firefighters were tasked with saving nearly 500 piglets from the farm at Aldwark.
The fire service said the blaze likely broke out after a fault on a JCB's telescopic handler.
The flames quickly spread across the farm and ultimately destroyed "several vehicles and buildings".
Luckily the firefighters managed to save hundreds of piglets that housed in the farm buildings.
But sadly, the emergency services were too late for six piglets who lost their lives in the blaze.
The farm owners also lost three tractors, a fork lift, a car trailer and a hedge trimmer tractor.
Three of the buildings were completely destroyed and about 60 per cent of the fourth was left damaged.
It is not clear whether the pigs were destined for an abbatoir in their later life or not.
