ARSENAL recorded their second victory of the season as they edged a narrow victory at St James' Park in a fiery encounter.
 
Newcastle faced an uphill battle from the off after Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off after just 16 minutes before Fabrico Collocini's own goal in the second half.
The first yellow card came after just three minutes with Moussa Sissoko catching Nacho Monreal on his ankle - but this was just the first of many fiery tackles to come.
Newcastle keeper Tim Krul was forced into an early save to deny Theo Walcott - the England international starting ahead of Olivier Giroud.
On the quarter hour mark Newcastle's challenge became a lot harder. Aleksandar Mitrovic received a straight red card from referee Andre Marriner after he missed the ball and stamped on Francis Coquelin's ankle.

Newcastle continued to enter their names into the referee's book with Chancel Mbemba and Florian Thauvin next to receive a yellow card that left McClaren venting his frustrations in his technical area.
Walcott should have given the the visitors the lead after 32 minutes after Alexis Sanchez's shot was parried by Krul but the 26-year-old couldn't keep his shot under the bar from just a few yards out.
Newcastle began the second half where they left off - this time Vurnon Anita getting the Newcastle's fourth booking after just three minutes, before Santi Cazorla and Georginio Wijnaldum joined him moments later.
The home side's resistance was finally broken after 52 minutes as the Gunners took the lead.
 
Krul saved Aaron Ramsey's shot with the rebound falling to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who then drove a right-footed shot across goal that deflected off Fabricio Coloccini and into the net.
Newcastle struggled to find an equaliser as Arsenal held out to go home with all three points.
